Boats are one of three modes of Transportation of Resources
List of Boats
| Icon | Name | Construction Resources | Construction Time | Capacity | Size | Speed | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Clipper | 24x Planks | 8 days | 12 Resource | 3 x 1 | 4.0 | Docks at Harbour or Large Harbour | |
| Lugger | 10x Planks, 20x Iron | 10 days | 36 Resource | 4 x 1 | 3.0 | Docks at Large Harbour |
Transport Routes
A transport route can be added to an unassigned boat.
Assigning Routes
Selecting a boat (via "Boat Available" message or Boat list menu), allows selection of valid Harbour Stops via the presented list or selection of a Harbour.
Confirmation is allowed after 2 or more valid harbours are selected. (DLC New Lands has the option of adding a Floating Watchtower to the route for Clippers.)
The same harbour may be selected so that a boat travels A->B->C->B->A rather than circular A->B->C->A
Selecting a boat will show a graphic representation of the route.
Boat Harbour Stops Timing
Boats will leave Harbour at the earliest of:
- Boat cargo is full
- Harbour docking timer has expired
NOTE: If a boat has sourced a resource for onloading or offloading before the timer expires, it will wait for the resource to onload/offload, even if that occurs after the timer expiration.
Expeditions
On some maps you'll run out of room or resources and you'll need to explore the seas to set up a new colony on a distant island.
Collect Resources
To be able to build a new Harbour/Large Harbour on another island you first need to collect the construction resources at an existing Harbour/Large Harbour via the Expedition panel.
Expedition resources collected at a Harbour will build a Harbour, while Expedition resources collected at a Large Harbour will build a Large Harbour
Assign Boat
Once all the resources have been collected at your harbour you can then assign a boat to the expedition. Select any unassigned boat, select 'Assign Expedition' and the boat will travel to the harbour to collect the Expedition resources.
Clipper and Harbour vs. Lugger and Large Harbours
A Clipper can only hold enough resources for a Harbour. Selecting a Large Harbour expedition for a Clipper will show "Boat too small".
A Lugger is too large to dock at a Harbour. Selecting a Harbour expedition for a Lugger will show "Harbour too small".
Exploring
Once the stackbots have loaded all the expedition resources onto the boat, it is ready to sail! Now when you select the boat it will automatically enter manual navigation mode. This means you can left-click on any visible water tile and the boat will sail to it.
Build New Harbour
As you sail around the seas you'll discover new land. When you decide on a shore you'd like to set up a new colony, select 'Build Harbour' and you'll be able to select a location for the new harbour to be constructed. Once you place the harbour, the boat will unload resources from the Expedition to construct the harbour.
