Your territory is the area of land that you have control over and you can only construct buildings, mine Natural resources, chop trees, or plant trees that are within your territory.

Overview Map Example

The map can be accessed by the Map icon in the Colony Information Menu. See Game User Interface.

It shows you a top-down view of the land that is visible to you along with the amounts of locations of natural resources available to you. You can zoom in and out using the mouse wheel or the slider on the left.

Natural Resource outside your fog of war are marked as unknown and may be any natural resource type, but their location can give you a hint about which direction to expand in.

Clicking on the "eyes" can help highlight various resources. The infinity symbol highlights shaft resources, while resources with counts represent surface resources.

Want to know where Fish. Fish Shoals, or Lobster Pods are? Click on the Fishing Locations tab. Some Frontiers may also add a tab.

Want to know where small or large runestones are? Click on the Runestones tab. (not shown in image)

The example to the right shows the fog of war (black), your controlled territory (brighter) and the visible territory (lighter).

A Boat, as seen here in the north-west corner, can expand the visible territory during an expedition.

Expanding Your Territory

Watch Tower Coverage
Watch Tower Coverage

Your Colony Ship gives you a small area of territory to begin with. To expand your territory you need to construct Watchtower L1. Once a guardbot occupies a constructed watchtower you will gain new territory.

It's usually best to build watchtowers right on the border to gain the most territory. Also higher level watchtowers (Watchtower L2, Watchtower L3) have a larger radius and will grant you more territory.

The territory ownership and which overlaps with ownership of other watchtowers is shown by selecting the "i" panel on each watchtower.

To the right, you can see that if the selected watchtower is dismantled or destroyed then the reddish section would no longer be occupied. Everything placed in that area would burn to rubble. The overlap section is greenish is because of the watchtower north (above) of the one selected.

Hotkeys

Pressing H will quickly return your view to where your Colony Ship is located.
Pressing <shift> + arrow keys (or wasd) will move your view across the map quickly.
Press & Hold + numberpad <1-9> to set Custom Views, which includes camera location, zoom level, rotation, and tilt. Custom Views can be overwritten via the same method. Then press <1-9> to jump to that view. If it has not been set yet a message will display how to set it.

Expeditions

On some maps resources might only be accessible over water. To set up new colonies on different islands you'll need to set up an expedition at a Harbour and explore the high seas. Once you hit land on your new island, your new Harbour will grant you a small amount of territory to work with. For more information check out the Expeditions section of the Boats page.

Combat

On some maps you will come across unfriendly robot colonies and eventually your territory borders will meet and the only way to gain more territory will be to capture the enemy watchtowers. Full information on this is in the Combat section.

Hotkeys

Pressing H will cycle your view to from your Colony Ship and any captured Colony Ship.
