Buildings are where your colonists create and produce resources. Each building has at least one stackbot who drops offs and collects resources to and from a road post.

Build Menu

From the Build Menu (sometimes called Build Mode) you have the ability to select the type of building you want to place.

Selecting any building will display the Building Construction Panel. In addition, selecting any building will display an outline for placement. The outline will be red if the building cannot be placed where you are attempting to. This is either due to lack of research, terrain or proximity restrictions. The outline will be green for areas you can place the building.

Building Panels

This panel will display the resources needed for production, construction, and, if needed, requirements (research) needed to allow you to place the building. For buildings that require research to be completed before it becomes available, any required research will be listed under "Requirements", with completed research showing a green check and still needed research showing a red x. If the building is not available yet due to research, the tab will show a lock.

There is also an estimated construction time. Note: these times are estimates and are really based on just-in-time resource delivery and no other delays.

Hotkeys

Use B to enter building mode.

Use TAB to cycle through levels of a building that has multiple levels.

Or use KEYS 1 to = to jump between building categories and cycle between individual buildings.

Use R when placing a building to rotate its orientation.

Use F when placing a building to flip its orientation.

Use ALT when placing a building to have construction paused immediately.

Use C + click on a building for copying the building's export and import rules.

Use V + click on a building for pasting the building's export and import rules.

Bot Printer

Buildings need to be connected by roads or paths that are connected to buildings that have Bot Printers.

Bot Printers are available from the Colony Ship, Harbours, Large Harbour, Train Stations, and Large Storage Yards.

Bot Printers produce all the needed Bots to support the colony.

Note that bots from buildings that are destroyed or dismantled, Carrybots from roads that are destroyed, and Builderbots that have completed construction, will return to a printer to be "recycled". This has no impact on game play.

SPEED RUNNING TIP: Using multiple buildings that have a botpPrinter speeds up getting Bots where they need to go. Bot Printers produce Bots even if the building's construction is paused.

SPEED RUNNING TIP: Each bot takes 120 game ticks to print.

Buildings produce resources that often support other buildings so placing them as close as possible will help with overall efficiency of your colony. For example to the right, an Iron Shaft Mine is supplying the Blast Furnace which in turn is supplying the Blacksmith which in turn is supplying the L2 Workshop. Using Storage Yards and Storage Rules can help manage other needed resources.
